Winter Hike Challenge

We invite you to step outside and join us on a winter adventure to hike 90 miles over the course of 90 days for our Winter Hike Challenge.

We believe in the physical and mental health benefits of spending time outside, fostering a deep connection with nature. Hiking is a simple way to do that and research shows that hiking increases physical strength, improves mental well-being, alleviates stress, and reduces anxiety/depression. All of these are great reasons to get outside and go on more hikes this winter!

Join our winter hike challenge and commit to hiking 90 miles in 90 days not only for the health benefits, but the opportunity to connect with others. We will offer guided group hikes throughout the challenge and motivation through our online community to connect with those who aren’t local but seeking accountability and hiking buddies.

Need more incentive to join this challenge? We are partnering with some amazing businesses and local organizations to offer rewards, prizes, and group hikes throughout the challenge. Hike for your physical health, hike for your happiness, or hike just to hike! Regardless of your motivation, the health benefits are undeniable and participating in the challenge can help you embrace the winter season with a new mindset and walk into spring a little lighter.

How does it work? Pick one of the hiking packages below that inspires and motivates you – basic, cool, cozy, properly prepared or thru hiker. Each tier has the same commitment of hiking 90 miles in 90 days, but the rewards you receive vary. You’ll be invited to monthly group hikes, our Facebook group and online community to meet new people, and to track your own miles using Strava. All participants will be eligible to win prizes from our sponsors including hiking boots from REI Chattanooga and outdoor gear from Four Bridges Outfitters. And we are committed to planting a tree for everyone who participates in the challenge to contribute to the global reforestation efforts from One Tree Planted.

The rules are…

  • Choose your rewards level – basic, cool, cozy, properly prepared, or thru-hiker
  • Challenge begins December 21 and ends March 19, 2024.
  • Hike/walk/run, anywhere outside, for 90 miles in 90 days (Dec. 21 to March 19).
  • Track your own miles in the Strava app (must download free app).
  • Join the Winter Hike Challenge Facebook group and Strava Club for motivation and invitations to the monthly group hikes.
  • Any outdoor location counts – trails, greenways, or even walking in circles on a track, but we highly encourage you to do as many hikes outside as possible to soak up the added health benefits of immersing in nature.
  • Tag us in your photos @outshine.adventures #outshineadventures #winterhikechallenge
  • Registration fees go towards the cost of supplies (swag and tree planting). We appreciate your support and giving back to the environment.

**Once you register + pay we will contact you about your rewards selections to confirm sizing/colors. You will be added to the email list for the free monthly group hikes. We welcome tagging on social media posts. Any photos you tag us in can be used in our marketing materials. All participants will have the opportunity to win additional outdoor gear from our sponsors!
