River to Rail Historical Bike Tour

4 hours

Chattanooga is rich with history, and we want you to experience some of it while riding bicycles on the South Chickamauga Greenway. The Tennessee River, the railroads, and South Chickamauga Creek all play an important role in Chattanooga’s development, and we will share these stories with you during this guided tour. During the 12-mile bike ride along the TN Riverwalk and newly completed South Chickamauga Greenway, we will go on a journey that discovers Chattanooga’s history – the Cherokee, the development of its railroads, Union spies, Civil War soldiers, the Civil Rights Movement, and its floods. The entire trip is on a non-motorized pathway, and we will stop frequently at points of interest and examine what happened there. The bike ride includes many boardwalks, bridges, and numerous railroad crossings. Bikes and helmets provided on this guided tour. Bring your own bike and join for half price. This tour is a total of 12 miles with 410 ft of elevation gain. The total duration of the tour depends on the groups riding abilities and the duration of each stop. Please assess your own abilities before signing up for this tour. Can you bike 12 miles in roughly 2-2.5 hours? Please plan for at least 3 hours for the total duration of this tour. This adventure is ideal for most beginner to intermediate bikers who want a unique way to experience Chattanooga and get some fresh air while doing it. E-bike rentals available!
